I first started taking lessons with Gabriel coming with a deep love for jazz but very little technical experience on the keys. He has been such an amazing and supportive teacher, especially in helping me finally systemize my learning process. We started right with the basics, and he always gave me clear, actionable examples of exactly what to practice to actually see improvement.
I’ve really appreciated how he balances discipline with creativity, also. I can bring in any tune I’m interested in, and he breaks down the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of the music so clearly. There is no such thing as a “wrong” endeavor under his guidance, only a learning experience. He also shares so many valuable listening references, and his lessons are structured in such a way that I can re-visit them and work on what we went over for a very long time, building it into my practice routine.
Gabriel creates an environment that has really expanded my own intrinsic desire to learn. If you're looking for a kind and inspiring mentor, I can’t recommend him enough!

I have been studying piano with Gabriel Guerrero for over the past four months, taking lessons on a weekly basis.
I have found him to be very patient and insightful of what areas I need to work on and how much can be accomplished within a given time frame. He is very open to and encourages feedback from me. I am principally interested in classical but now have some interest in learning jazz as well and like the fact that I can explore both with him. I feel I have been making very good progress in my overall musicianship and in my piano skills under his guidance.

Having studied with Gabriel for about a year now, it is clear that he’s not only an incredibly skilled musician but also a kind, thoughtful, and effective teacher.

Gabriel’s emphasis on musicality and creativity makes our lessons well-organized but never rigid, and this leaves room to go down interesting musical paths and explore different solo possibilities. He also often brings a melodica to our lessons, and it’s both fun and enriching to practice trading solos and hear Gabriel demonstrate interesting musical ideas that I can implement into my playing!

Would highly recommend, and I look forward to continue working with Gabriel in the future!

As a pianist, Gabriel is extremely talented and can perform a range of styles with grace and passion for the music. Gabriel is an incredible teacher who not only cares for his students but knows what they need to work on to take them to the next level. While working with him, I gained a deeper sense of collective melody and rhythm within an ensemble and have a greater confidence in the melodic voice of my ear. Without him I would not have been accepted into NEC's Masters in Jazz Piano Performance program and would not be the same musician I am today--highly recommend!

Gabriel is such an incredible teacher! He meets you exactly where you’re at and tailors his approach based on how you learn best. I’m personally more interested in learning to play jazz and right from the beginning he made that a priority rather than focusing on traditional classical pieces. Gabriel has a unique ability to find songs and pieces that fit my skill level and interest, and yet have the continuity of the curriculum across all of them.

So he avoids the trap of having me study off of a single, published piano course (which could be generic and somewhat boring), which is what many piano teachers will do.

Other piano teachers will let you pick your favorite songs, and you will have fun but not improve.

Gabriel has a thoughtful curriculum in mind, and it is logical, progressive, custom-designed for me, with every new song building on what we already learned.

That is high quality stuff, very rare!

I’ve been taking lessons with Gabriel for several months and it’s been a great journey so far. He’s clearly a deeply experienced teacher and player who’s passionate about his craft and I’ve made solid progress in a reasonable amount of time. I especially like how he’s willing to accommodate whatever you’re most interested in learning (e.g classical, sight reading, jazz, music theory, etc.) Also, his rates are competitive and he’s flexible with scheduling hours. Gabriel is a great piano teacher. I’ve finally found someone who is willing to work with me in a way that makes sense. He’s patient, kind, and takes the time to understand what might help me work through my blind spots. I’m an adult learner with very little spare time, so it’s slow going for me, but I absolutely look forward to my lessons and what lies ahead in the weeks and months to come. I do recommend him highly.
